I recently dropped by Rags2Riches (R2R) headquarters to catch up with Matt Pardinas, one of the passionate people behind this Manila-based for-profit social enterprise.  I met him in a Young Leaders' Forum in Tagaytay sponsored by the US Embassy earlier this year, and was instantly impressed on his dedication to his job as R2R Marketing and Corporate Relations Manager.  Matt & I, together with other local NGO representatives we bonded with in the Forum, made a pledge to support each other in any way we can to promote our cause/s - which we believe will build our beloved nation. Naks!

Rags2Riches Inc. is a for-profit social enterprise based in Manila, Philippines, creating eco-ethical fashion and home accessories out of up cycled scrap cloth, organic materials and indigenous fabrics by working with artisan from community-based enterprises across the country. Rags2Riches’ philosophy stands upon its four bottom lines: People, Profit, Planet and Positive Influence.   

Rags2Riches Inc. was created to provide these artisans with fair access to the market and the formal economy, R2Rintegrated a design solution by partnering with well-known local fashion designers like Rajo Laurel, turning scrap materials into fashion handbags.  After four years, R2R has already empowered 450 artisan across 21 communities in Metro Manila area, and continues to expand its social impact and eco-ethical footprint in the country.

Currently in R2R shelves are the RIIR Rajo Laurel Summer/ Spring 2012 collection.  I absolutely adore the practical yet stylish designs in summer & bright neon colors, which are still in trend now.
