Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen at Shangri-La Plaza (East Wing)

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Rame, Shangri-La Plaza

I rarely find myself in Shang or in Ortigas area these days.  The heat and traffic are ENOUGH excuse to stay put. Besides, when shopping centers and food joints are just a stone throw away why bother pa, right? But the newly opened East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza is getting quite some buzz, kaya maki-usi muna tayo. ;-)

Shang - Under Major Facelift

I parked at the main mall.  My golly, now I remember why I refrained scheduling meetings/ meet-ups there.  It's like a maze in Temple Run. I wish they can redesign the car park building too.  But I have to hand it with Shang's management, I'm very pleased with their directional signs.  I easily found the "hidden" elevator in the parking building.

Shangri-la Plaza (East Wing) Atrium

A small atrium welcomed us as we entered the East Wing from the ground floor escalator.  Nothing grand really, very simple, but executed nicely.

The East Wing has a hotel-like finish and served with very pleasant attendants/ security personnel - something to expect from a Shangri-La property.  It has bigger cuts, higher ceiling, and better lighted compared to the main mall.  It has nice architectural feature by the escalator and big picture windows in select locations for natural lighting (and perhaps to give their customers some bearing where they are).

My favorite part of the mall, believe it or not, is their sha-la restroom. It has a changing room for babies,  junior's toilet and huge space for powder/ make up counter.  You don't mind paying P10 for this.  Frankly speaking,  one indicator of a decent public place for me is their lavatory.  Good thing, most of the major shopping centers in Manila are upgrading their restrooms.

Hotel-like Restroom

There are only few shops open, but the selection of restaurants is something to explore.  Nakakaintriga yung store designs, each one of them seems to be telling a unique story.

Now enough about the mall, let's eat!

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen is located at the 5th level of the new Shangri-la Mall.  The place is packed at noon even with the low foot traffic inside the mall.  The store design looks pleasant.  It has a clean, simple and casual ambiance and has a show kitchen by the bar area.

Since it's our first time, I ordered the best seller - the one with the biggest picture in the menu.

Ajitama Tonkotsu

Ajitama Tonkotsu (Php380) - topped with half boiled egg, chashu (roast pork) & seaweed with pork soup base seasoned with Ikkoryu Fukuoka's special soy sauce.  The noodles are freshly made from premium flour imported from Japan.  You can choose from hard, normal, and soft noodles with your soup.  Japanese like their noodles hard, per our server, probably for texture and to avoid getting their noodles soggy while waiting for the soup to cool.  We opted for "normal", cooked al dente.

Ohh, the flavor is just bursting in every spoonful!  Exactly what I imagined it.  The slice of roasted pork is soft & tender.  I wasn't feeling very well that day so the big bowl of good ramen was exactly what I needed. Definitely going back for another bowl soon.

P.s.  House tea is served with ice (without sugar).  Hihihi just a caution. ;-)
