Brigada Eskwela 2013

School starts on June 3, 2013, is your school ready?

I recently went to Negros to witness the turnover of a project we, the NGO I work for, did for a public school elementary that is very dear to our organization.  We are very pleased to see its completion in time for the opening of classes on June 3, and felt very encouraged to see how such small project can bring so much joy to so many people.

National Schools Maintenance Week, otherwise known as "Brigada Eskwela", is a week long school cleanup and maintenance drive that signals the beginning of the school year is here again.  It is a voluntary collective effort of teachers and school heads, parents and the local community stakeholders that began last May 20, 2013 for the SY 2013-2014.

There are a lot of things to be done.  We do not have to be in government or NGO to help, WE CAN ALL HELP NOW.  Visit the nearest public school in your community/ baranggay and assess their needs.  You can help either through monetary contribution or in kind.  Donation of cleaning materials, maintenance supplies, paint, or even art supplies for the classrooms and teachers are very much welcomed.  You can also involve your children / family by asking them to donate used/ old books for the school's library.   LITTLE THINGS COUNT.  We can do this.  Like what Maya always say, kapit-bisig!

P.S.  So how are you changing your world so far?  Feel free to drop a note or comment.  Also, I'm on Twitter & Instagram @ohhthatbytin.  Let's catch up soon ha! :)

  4. It's school time again and still the problem of rooms, books and facilities are the ones that should be addressed by the government. Good thing that parents and the community are always there to help out

    1. Thanks! June 3 is for public schools, private schools start a little late. By the way, how did you manage raising 3 boys? You must be one tough mama. Heheh.. They sure are growing up fast (and good looking too). :)

  6. Ang bilis ng araw. I am sure most of the kids are excited to go to school especially if they have new brand new shoes, uniforms, bags, and other school things. Ganyan na ganyan ako nun then after a week medyo nakakatamad na ulit, hehe. Akala ko my son can go to school this year na, but next year sure na sure na.

  8. I love this program and hope that there are more private corporations adopting schools to take this to another level. there's a public school in the nearby barangay but we haven't volunteered. Maybe next year.

  13. Wow. Nice naman. Since I attended a seminar for Grade 8, I wasn't able to clean and fix the classroom assigned to me. Until now, I am still cleaning the room.
